Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have discovered numerous entertaining independent titles. However, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure features a character that is truly a turd attempting to navigate to a commode. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is straightforward: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout 150 stages, battle tough enemies and visit a market to acquire outfits for your poop character.
Time your actions precisely, as a wrong move forces starting over. Leap using floating orbs to launch yourself upward, cross fragile ledges, and activate triggers to unlock hidden paths. Earn currency for buying tougher levels in which gameplay ramps up.
Graphically, the demo shows off eye-catching level designs and an amazing soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style featuring morphing geometric shapes may remind fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's difficult to think of similar titles where you control a dung character, gaming often featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. And of course, such content appears extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the final release scheduled to arrive on Steam in the fall.
